    Types of Backflow

Before you can determine what type of backflow preventer you’ll need for your St. Louis home, you need to know the difference between the main types of backflow that exist. There are two main kinds of backflow you should be aware of:

    • Backpressure, and
    • Backsiphonage

Here is a quick overview of these two terms means:

Backpressure is the reversal of water flow within a piping system, and it is usually caused by an increase in the water used compared to water supplied. This problem is much less common than backsiphonage, but it can be completely prevented with the installation of a quality backflow prevention system.

Backsiphonage is the more common of these problems and is caused by a reversal of water flow due to an increase in the velocity of water use. If you have aged pipelines, leaking sewer connections, or crossed-over connections, backsiphonage is very likely to occur. The water flow is redirected back to other parts of your piping and draining system, which can cause a number of huge problems

In order to fix a problem with backsiphonage, you’ll have to go underground (often beneath your house) and remove the pipe that’s causing the trouble. If backsiphonage does occur, our plumbers can take care of the problem, but our backflow prevention services can help you stay out of this situation altogether.

    Importance of Backflow Preventers

There are many different companies that offer many different backflow prevention systems, and our professionals will be able to help you navigate the differences and determine which options are best for your St. Louis home.

The biggest factor to consider is the quality of the backflow preventer. Of course, you’ll have to work within the budget that you have available, but making sure that your backflow preventer is as effective as possible is important to your entire plumbing system.
