Why Use a Boiler
Boilers are an effective and cost-efficient way to heat your home. However, most modern homes don’t use boilers as their primary heat sources. Still, those homes that do use boilers can have them last for years and be completely effective as long as they’re well-maintained. In order to keep your St. Louis home’s boiler in the best condition possible, our boiler repair specialists recommend that you have a tune-up of the heating unit at least once a month.
Types of Boilers
There are two main types of boilers: hot water boilers and steam boilers.
- Hot water boilers heat up water, then send it to your radiators when it reaches about 160 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the water has cooled, it’s sent back to the boiler to be reheated.
- Steam boilers operate in a similar way, but they’re more complex. They heat water until it turns into steam, then send that steams out to your St. Louis home’s radiators. Once it becomes a liquid again, it’s sent back to your boiler, and the process begins again. (Steam boilers are very rarely still found in homes unless they have not yet been converted to water boilers.)
Our boiler repair technicians can work with either type of boiler, and if you need it for your home, we can help you convert your steam boiler to hot water.
- When Should You Replace Your Water Heater?
Water heaters are almost always under stress, and they are very rarely switched off. So there’s no way to predict when a serious problem may occur with your water heater, and unless you pay close attention to the appliance, you may need a replacement when you least expect it.The plumbers at Rivers Plumbing Heating &…Read More
